Here ya go! Cut bags into 1 1/2″ to 2″ strips going around the bad at a slight angle. Cut a slit on one end and pull the next strip through the slit. Use a large, N, P, Q, crochet hook and make a round, square or oval rug. You can make them in random colors or save the particular colors you like. These make nice rugs to stand on in front of the sink or outside the door to catch dirt from outside. It takes a lot of bags to make even a small rug.
I found the pattern and directions using Google that Grandma used to make her’s many moons ago. Also, there are patterns where you can weave rugs out of plastic bags. Glad to see the OLD is becoming New again. LOL! Have fun with it!
Morning Crappers so funny you mentioned the plastic bag rug. I started making one yesterday.Although the one I am making is braided then stitched together with fishing line because I don’t know how to knit. I also checked out some cool ideas for making purses on Ebay and saw some rugs also people are selling them. I found pictures and directions using google search engine. Its cold today 8.1 F (-13.3 C) here I despise winter. Have a good day all
Does anyone remember the fried marble days? Gonna have to try the braided one you mention here, TY! LOL! Chip! Does anyone remember the FRIED MARBLES? I made some last year and made keychains and bracelets and couldn’t keep up with the demand from the kids and their friends. LOL! A great conversation piece for sure.
SusieQ, do Fried Marbles taste anything like Fried Green Tomatoes? Had them once after I saw the movie. They were GREAT! Just kidding ’bout the taste thing. Honest. Really. I mean it. Seriously. I knew they weren’t for eating!

great thing crocheting rugs from bags. My grandmother and her sister started doing it in the late sixties, at the time they thought they invented it. Wether they did or not makes no difference, just don’t put them on a newly waxed floor unless your an experienced snowboarder or surfer. what a ride! I don’t understand that there is never a reply at my house from peta. I have one pissed off cat who has taken to hunting again.
