The adventures of Maddog:
Day 1: Drove 950 miles in a rented extended van with the dog family and exchange student’s family to Flagstaff, AZ. Lots of fun with everyone! Especially, trying to translate!
Day 2: Drove up to the Grand Canyon. You’re just driving along and BAM! A big hole in the ground!! God has his wonders! I’m not fond of heights and, well scared the Crapperville out of me! Youngest son stood on a cliff looking down. Still get shivers! Got caught in an afternoon downpour. Most amazing part of trip! Ya just got to go!
More of the adventures to follow.
Alright Maddog! Can hardly wait to hear more! I am prejudice but I do think everyone should see that “big hole” at least once.
Mornin’ SusieQ and Chip, you make me want to “flex” my punmanship!
Mad Dog- Glad you got to see the amazing Grand Canyon. I also took my son there when he was young. Scarey indeed …. but I got lots of fantastic pictures framed & set around the house. Hope you took a ton of pictures to remember one of the great times in your life! :~)
That ol canyon makes for some very interesting conversation in any language right, Maddog! She is one beautiful site to behold, that’s for sure. Sounds like ya’ll had a great time there. :-)
Chip, what a wonderful wedding day to remember for your sister and family and friends.
David, I’ll bet those creative juices are flowing and flexing today! LOL! We could all have a lot of pun with this one! LOL! :-)
Hi Maddog, glad you’re home safe and sound from your exciting trip. I remember going to the Grand Canyon back in ‘73 for the first time. What a different place it was then compared to the way it had turned so commercial in ‘97 when I took my kids. In ‘73 my friend and I stayed in the hotel that is right on the rim, The Thunderbird, I think was the name of it. I remember eating rainbow trout in the dining room there, that was the BEST I have ever eaten. We saw a man at the edge of the Canyon with his kids, and the little boy was saying “Daddy! Daddy, look at the squirrel, look at the squirrel!” Sure enough, there was it was (well actually, it was a chipmunk) perched on the very edge of oblivion, with his fur being blown back by the wind. The man turns to me and says, ” You bring your kids to the Grand Canyon, and they’re impressed by a squirrel.”
I took my 3 kids there in’97 and had a similar experience. On that trip we camped on both the South and North rims.
Matt- Call your local Long John Silvers and your local Wienerschnitzel to see if they are participating in the free hot dogs, ice cream & fish tacos tomorrow on Tues 7/14. Although its nationwide, they have to be a participant, so call first! Hope this helps :~)
Mornin’, Y’all!
Well, today our exchange student from Germany (Timo) and his family leave for home. It’s been 11 short months. We all have become so close. Sorry, folks, I’m not feeling too happy right now. Actually, pretty sad. Happy that we gave him and his family a great experience, but so sad that we will not see our great friends for a while. We had many laughs together and so, so fond memories that I cannot count. We did have quite a chuckle at the drink called “Sierra Mist” and the gum from Orbit called “Mist” though! The word “Mist” in German means “Crap”!! So, all of us are “Misters”!! :-)
And, now, for the tears……….
SusieQ friends will never truly leave your heart and time will bring you back to meet again! Cry if you must, but remember to cry tears of joy, for the “free” gift of love and friendship you now can cherish! Auf wiedersehen! :~D
LOL!, Burk! Believe me, I probably have umteen years on you for sure! LOL! Come on brother, it’s not that bad. LOL!
I have twin grandchildren, boy and a girl. He is the oldest by two minutes. When they are asked who is the oldest. He says, “I’m the oldest”, and she responds right after, “But I’m taller than he is”! LOL! Double the fun for sure!
